This season, we’ve been reflecting on what hemp means for Michigan farmers — and for us personally. As highlighted in Michigan Farm News, our journey with hemp has been one of both challenge and optimism. The early rush of interest in 2019 has given way to a smaller, more focused group of growers who see the crop’s long-term potential beyond the initial hype.
For our farm, hemp has never been about a quick return. It’s about diversification, sustainability, and helping build a foundation for a new agricultural market right here in Michigan. The hurdles are real: limited processors, evolving regulations, and the steep learning curve of managing a crop with tight THC thresholds. Yet, each season brings new lessons and partnerships — and more importantly, a clearer path forward.
We believe hemp still holds enormous promise for fiber, grain, and innovative uses that go far beyond CBD. The key now is collaboration — between growers, processors, researchers, and policymakers — to create the infrastructure and demand that make hemp a viable crop for farms of all sizes.
Our hope is that, through continued experimentation and shared knowledge, Michigan’s hemp story will evolve from uncertainty to opportunity. We’re proud to be part of that story — and excited to see where it leads.
